All of these items are
for fancier dolls whether Queen Anne styles or others including
best dresses for Hitty. Please note that although some of the silks
have larger than doll-scale designs, that they have been chosen as
still doll-appropriate due to historical precedent that people had
to use what was available and unlike modern times with a quilt shop
around the corner, there just simply were not always small scale fabrics
at hand. Not only that, but especially in the case of Queen Annes,
doll clothes were often made from their people counterpart's leftovers. |

LACE-MAKING KIT ~ A tiny kit to do a big and easy job. Lace that is appropriate for small dolls (and big dolls) is hard to find. I long ago used up all the vintage lace I had collected and then I was faced with "now what?" Sometimes commercial lace just does not have the look and as small as it comes, it is still too big for some small dolls. This is an easy way to make lace with just a needle and cotton thread with one easy stitch. Directions, needle, thread (in just the right color for antique look) plus a practice fabric piece so you can start right in. $3.75 Add to Cart |
| THREAD FOR LACE MAKING (scroll way down for lacemaking) ~ This is the
thread we use for my hand crocheted or needle made lace. All cotton,
Mettler thread, color 781 which is a perfect aged-looking white. Regular size 150 meters. $2.35 Add to Cart Large size 500 meters. $5.90 Add to Cart |

DOLL'S SEWIES FOR ACCESSORIES:
This package is a very sweet and fun kit for small dolls. Queen Anne
ladies spent much time on their needlework which was often kept in
their pockets. This is basically a set of the best working miniature
brass fancy scissors with a complementary set of patterns for a tiny
scissors case, flat tomato pincushion and a strawberry emery. All items
are well under an inch and easy to make from your silk (or cotton)
scraps. They are nice to hang from doll's apron waist on a silk ribbon. Kit with Scissors $10.25 Add to Cart Scissors alone $6.95 Add to Cart |

MOHAIR FOR WIGGING: Smooth
and realistic for small dolls. One yard lengths for wefting or other
types of wig making. You can apply the wefting to a wig cap made from
molded cotton knit, or use the sturdy moldable linen (18 mesh) with
instructions for a wig cap. Note: The Ash mohair listed below looks
like flax which is often used on Queen Annes. Flax can be stiff, so
this is a perfect substitute. New (not shown but looks like the Flaxen mohair below second from left) ~ REAL FLAX - many Queen Anne wigs are made with this both old and contemporary. $4.75 for 1 yard lengths. Add to Cart

FIBER COMB FOR DOLL
HAIR In a lot of my kits, there is a need to use a "hair pick" to sort, smooth and thin the fibers. This is particularly true for all doll hair made from roving. Roving cannot be combed or brushed or it will fall apart, so this tool has been made here to solve the problem - real human hair picks with thin metal tines are hard to find. You could make one yourself with 5 needles and some sculpey (see my Hints page), but here is a nice one with a wood handle. $6.75 Add to Cart |

FELTING
NEEDLES
These needles which have been used in industry for a long time have recently hit the dollmaking world too and once you use them, you will see why. They are three-sided needles that have tiny barbs in them that pull fibers with them and leave them behind when the needle is removed, so that an in and out movement with the needle, felts or wefts fibers together. They can be used to attach fiber hair to cloth dolls' heads without sewing or gluing, and although this is not totally secure for playworthiness, it is fine for most "just to be looked at dolls". I also use them a lot for just securing the hairdoes themselves, not to the scalp but just to pull the hair into line or tidy up places that have become messy, especially with roving hair. Four needles come with a small instruction sheet. $2.75 Add to Cart |

IMPORTANT SUPPLY FOR SILK ![]() |
MY OWN FRAY PREVENTER I have always recommended this for painting on raw edges of fabrics before turning to prevent tear out at stress points, but sewing with silk presents another skill that it has. If you will draw your cutting pattern pieces on the flat silk and then paint this on the drawn line, the silk will not fray once cut and viola suddenly sewing with silk is no longer a hassle. 1 oz. jar $2.00 Add to Cart |

FAVORITE PINS - BEST
PINS FOR SILKS These pins are so nice, I give dire threats to anyone caught using them. Made by the Japanese who are the masters of fine sewing needles and pins along with fabric. These are particularly nice glass headed pins (a bit longer than1 inch), but unlike so many others, just melt into the fabric. With delicate small glass heads. Box of pins. $9.75 Add to Cart |

TINY QUILTED COTTON ~ This
double layer cotton has the look of doll scale linen with a 3/8" diamond
quilting. Fine enough weight to drape for 18th Century quilted petticoats.
You can hand stitch on top of lines or add knots or beads at intersections,
overdye or leave as is. Sold in 1/2 yd pieces. Three colors $7.00 each. |
RECOMMENDED FOR DOLL UNDIES,
CAPS, FINE WEIGHT APRONS ETC. NEW - BATISTE BY THE YARD This batiste is actually a better grade of fabric and is less transparent than my favorite batiste above. It has good drape, overdyes well, and is more affordable. $5.00 yd Add to Cart |

WOOL THREAD
FOR EMBROIDERY OR PUNCH NEEDLE WORK ~ This extra-fine wool thread will
produce crewel-like work for dolls. Especially good for pocket embroidery
and when used for punch needle (use 2-3 strand designs), looks like
real wool hooked rugs in doll scale. |

SPECIAL NEW
OVERDYED 3-STRAND FLOSS SETS ~ The colors of the two sets are perfect
for any project (if you can bear to use them - I made the mistake of
dumping my own set into a small antique blue bowl and could not take
them out). These have that uneven quality of the color due to the overdye
process so desirable in a vintage look. Also work well in punch needle
designs. 12 balls in each set with 27 meters each ball. Both sets are
$38 each. Deep Tone Set (on left) Add

SILK RIBBONS ~ I have not scanned all the ribbon colors because I basically have a color to go with all silks in the first section below and felt this would be an easier way to pick the best ribbon for your job. All are about 3/16" wide and are priced at $3 for 5 yards. Go below to the solid silk colors to order your ribbon using the ribbon link. This ribbon dyes easily or can be easily tweaked to be a better match to your silk. DYEABLE SILK RIBBON ~ These three widths of ribbon are barely off-white
and intended to be easily dyed to the color of your choice. See below
to order easy dye recipes and instructions. DYEING INSTRUCTIONS AND RECIPES $2.50 Add

If you came to this place looking for nice silks, you will not find them any longer. It is very difficult to maintain a good palette of silks, particularly jaquards in small doll-size prints, but even the solid colors, for such a select audience. All of the stock that Gail searched her resources for and hand dyed in a good palette have been sold. Soon, however (spring), we will offer good silks in weights and types Gail recommends for dollmaking in readily dyeable off-white. Packages of easy to use dyes in Gail's palette will be available to dye them yourself. You can then dye matching ribbons and even print your own silk patterns (using these colors as backgrounds in an inkjet printer) with these ready to go packets. |
DYEABLE SILK: Plain off-white dyeable silk.
To economize, take advantage of how easily silk dyes using basic Rit
dyes (hints and recipes included). See above for ribbon that you could
dye to match at the same time. At this time, this is the only silk
we have, but will soon have a few other weights and types plus actual
packets of Gail's color palette dyes. DYEING INSTRUCTIONS AND RECIPES $2.50 Add to Cart |
